PEOPLECERT & SIG Pioneer New Qualification in Quality Software Development
London, UK. 12 February 2016. Demand for reliable software is at an all-time high, but the solution for building quality software remains as elusive as ever. Enter Quality Software Development - a brand-new qualification developed by PEOPLECERT, in collaboration with the Software Improvement Group (SIG), to address the ongoing urgency of industry demands for a best practice framework in creating consistent, good quality code.
“This is a breakthrough in software development, as there is no other qualification on writing quality code in the market today” said Joost Visser, Head of Research and Development, SIG. “It used to be all about producing code, however the elephant in the room has always been the actual quality of the code. Poorly programmed software causes massive headaches for businesses and organizations, - on the other hand, if the quality of code is good, then the system itself will be better, making it more adaptable and prepared for changes that will inevitably happen”.
Why Quality Software Development
There are over 18.5m1 programmers worldwide and this profession is expected to rise by 32%2 in the US alone, over the next coming years. Organizations face challenges every day around maintaining code, to maintain business. However, it goes much further than that, costing them hugely both financially and in manpower:
- $500b global IT debt3, with potential to double over the next few years
- 66%4 of time is spent on debugging and fixing poor quality code
- 70% of company’s report having at least one failed project in the last year5
This is not just a certification; this has the potential to drive this sector to get the appropriate training and embrace the mindset of software maintainability needed to produce high quality coding.
Why quality code matters
It gives organizations a competitive advantage: better code is cheaper, allowing programmers to test and modify with ease and speed. This certification is based on relevant needs within current industries and it was developed by developers, for the developers!
Who it is for
The Quality Software Development scheme is aimed at software developers with experience in Object Oriented Programming technologies (e.g. Java, C#), who want to understand and implement leading principles and processes defining maintainable good quality code. Furthermore, PEOPLECERT’s state-of-the-art assessment technology and award-winning online proctoring platform enables software developers to sit for the exam anywhere, at any time.
PEOPLECERT is a global leader in the assessment and certification of professional skills, partnering with multi-national organizations and government bodies to develop and deliver market leading exams across 150 countries worldwide each year. PEOPLECERT’s purpose is to empower professionals to reach their full potential and explore lifelong ambitions through learning.
